Fall So Hard 02:35
She lives for another man And I can’t interfere But I – I recall A time when she Would fall so hard Her mother died a year ago And now her father sits all alone But I – I recall A time when I Would fall so hard But now I am Thirteen thousand miles Away Two days were all we had And I will feel forever sad Because I – I recall A time when I Would fall so hard And she Would fall so hard And we Would fall so hard And given a choice Between you and her I would choose Her

I’d like to try it without the pain That took all I’ve got My heart just cannot Take it again I know You, I see you bound up deep down inside Hiding a flame Taking the blame Easing his pride I know I’ll never do that to you I’ll never smother your spirit I will trust you through and through A lucky man who is near it And if you shine bright for me I hope you feel it Like it washes warm over me I’d like to try it without the ring And promise not one Single damn thing But the time to share With me The prison walls of a jealous man Keep you on the run And I know that he’s done The best that he can With you (Refrain) I’d like to sail off in the wind Have faith inside To trust in the ride And find love again This time You with that peaceful sensuous smile I’ve known all along You’re trapped but you’re strong At least for a while This time (Refrain)

Go Ahead 02:34
Go ahead and use me Let my eyes be blind I don’t want to see The pain I know I’ll find Go ahead and break it The heart that healed you Leave now you can make it At last I see the real truth Go ahead I’ve no regret I’ve been burned by the sun And though I know you must set I’d do again what I have done Go ahead and shake loose Run off wild and free There’s just no more use For what you found in me Go ahead girl and linger Though we make the perfect pair I’d give up my fingers For the memory of our chair Go ahead I’ve no regret I’ve been burned by the sun And though I know you must set I’d do again what I have done
5.
I’m a single parent now One out of two of us And I can’t play the part To her like I’m wholly satisfied And I will not burden you With the pain I am feeling I cannot play for you I won’t let them pay for me And the truth is of this middle Makes me less for all of you Lady you change so fast now From peace to deadly expectation I’m a single parent now And all that entails to them And you are fading into someone Who catches my giving side Timing your tender approach Cycling in my predictable kindness You are free to come and go too You can rip my heart out And mop up the energy I am I lay it here for you and to you Oh that you’d be spared your clever timing But the wind and the waves they rumble They brush my soul and remind me I only wanted to give anyway
6.
Full moon it caught you last night And I was in the room You coyly passed by and took me in You know, and I know that you know I am wise to your eyes That speak through the lies you throw my way Flash me that secret smile and I, I’ll act immune I know it’s not your style You’re just howling at the moon… aoooooooo You shared the heat of my glare but let down your hair I know this is rare for you So I’ll go, no I’ll let you go But don’t think I don’t know that you’d go with me, if I’d take you there Flash me that secret smile and I, I’ll act immune I know it’s not your style You’re just howling at the moon… aoooooooo

To My Heart 03:10
First you turn left Then you turn right You’re almost there now Just follow the light The door’s always open To my heart Well sometimes you fear That there’s no way out Well just ‘cause you’re near Doesn’t mean you can’t go out The door’s always open To come in and out Of my heart Sometimes they feel Like they need me to see So they enter and heal Then they need to be free The door’s always open To come in and out Of my heart
8.
I’m not a dangerous man But you should fear me anyway Because I see right through you But I’m not a dangerous man I know that he was The man that you craved When you were just a little girl And he was a dangerous man I’m not a warrior But you should fear me anyway Because of the way I reveal your heart to you It doesn’t take a warrior I know that he was The man you thought you Gave your heart and soul to And he was your warrior I’m not a desperate man But you should fear me anyway I’m the one and only Man who found the place inside Your tender soul you barely kept alive And I have this dangerous heart And you should run away
9.
I write a song for you now Before your mind is known And it’s a troubly know how To strike out on your own Velvet is soft on your cheek And that coat keeps you warm And the safe feeling grows Where you’ll wind up nobody knows You took it off And you’re hot Under the collar And You Know You gave your time up And put on some years You are not giving up Though you’ve not shed your last tear You think your cup stands empty But I see that’s not true All you need is some time That I have got here for you You stretch your wings And be hot Under the collar… And You Know – That I Know I write a song and find you And you lay atop these keys And I, I just might unwind you But you will have to say please
10.
My soul is in the key of C sharp It is here in the notes and the rhyme And the not enough time And the music bouncing off this old harp My heart is in this rosewood rim It rattles the wood of this case And the echoes fade away Where no one hears and the lights are dim No crowds are here inside this old hall Here in this safe place for none Now I’m too tired to run Really no more of me left here at all I am so alone inside this place No one will find me here now I will never know how I will never be rid of her beautiful face Beneath my touch, this polished spruce Bronze around silken strings So I reach for these things I call out for you now don’t turn me loose A minor will be my epitaph The notes will be here in this book Where not a soul will even look They will hear me no more no tears no laugh I’d given up I’d sealed my heart in stone I can’t believe that it’s true That my heart at last touched you I have waited so long for you to come home
11.
Oh the Captain’s Maiden Like a siren she sings On the jackals and forecastle men Of tattoos and whalebone earrings But they should know the Captain’s Maiden For she’s his spice in her hair And the beauty he’s awakened Is a burden that’s his to bear And she rings and she sings And she plays with her strings As she bounds around on his wings But the Captain’s Maiden Can’t remain on board for long Soon the Captain’s Maiden… she will be gone And leaning back upon his taffrail The Captain pulls his pipe and sad He knows it’s not his first nor his last sail You run a ship on the wind that you had A steady hand old and weary worn Knows just how to ease a line But no Captain’s Maiden born Will have him leave his ship behind And he hails and he sails And he never fails To bring his ship through the gales But the Captain’s Maiden Can’t remain on board for long N the Captain’s Maiden… she will be gone

The Truth Is 04:40
I’d like to say I’m sorry For your pain I’d like to say I’m sorry For the rain that fell down on you But the truth is I’m glad He hurt you Opened your heart enough To make room for me I’d like to be the man Who turned your head that first time I’d like to be the man Who catches your eye without half trying But the truth is the heart In me was forged when I was lonely And I know I’d rather Touch your heart than catch your eye And that’s a first It’s the first time you fell hard for a friend Who didn’t change the minute That you loved him Lose his way in your smile And that’s a first It’s the first time you reached out to love And found that what You hoped would be Came true and made you feel free I’d like to say that now You know these things life will get better I’d like to promise that The pain will now somehow be easier But the truth is a part of me Hopes that he will hurt you with ‘goodbye’ And I know he’d be so sorry But you’d be free Free from the pain Free from the chain Free in the rain I’d like to say I’m sorry For the way he plays with your mind I’d like to say his love Is worth all the dark and troubled times But the truth is I know he holds you down He doesn’t deserve to kiss your hand And I know he’d be so sorry If he knew how he makes room for me (Refrain) I’d like to feel that I Am worth all of this pain for you But the truth is I was A splint upon your broken heart and soul And it is killing me to know That when you’re healed you must go Remember me Free now from him Free now to be Free now from me Remember me

Heroes Fall 03:34
All the best heroes Die young before they’re done With their courage on the line Stare down a loaded gun The dark one will win some battles And take the hero who won’t run But all those dead heroes Give courage to our sons Better beaten by a bully Than a coward to the call John Wayne takes a bullet Alec Guiness takes the fall No compromise of heart Stand alone to show us all They’ll die for what is right With their backs against the wall Against stupidity The Gods fight in vain But there’s not a war on That the hero cannot win He may miss the final showdown But he won’t commit the sin Of givin’ up on what is hard ‘N that gives victory to the men

Tomorrow 02:07
I wanted to impress In your mind The kind of man That I am And I wanted just to show To you What I know And where I’ll go Tomorrow And now that I have told you Where I’m from Will you hold me? And will you come? Tomorrow
15.
Now that’s the way this goes … Down How curtain falls and shows close But it’s not so bad Smile and don’t be sad Love don’t condescend or brag … Don’t Become a cold wet rag For we all fall down and some More when our time comes Now let’s all toast the end The cast will all play friends The past we’ll make amends The show has had its run The lights and crowds are done Now – Let – It – Fade – Away

about

With over 55 minutes of music, these 15 original studio recorded songs have been chosen in part because I felt they carry a vibe that easily could have been put on stage. Each one has a personal narrative feel to it, and despite how each is other directed, the word ‘I’ is in all but three of them.

Often when songwriting I am seeing a scene in my head as it comes together. That juxtaposition between the emotion of a melody and the story I want to tell in lyrics, the memory I want to bring into the future with me, or a scene I witnessed that inspired me to capture it in music, that balance between the story as it was and what it could or should have been makes a showtune to me every bit as much as whether or not Broadway has or ever will hear it.
